Zuurfontein In A Mess
Zuurfontein In A Mess: There has been no back filling done yet on Zuurfontein Road where a huge sinkhole occurred due to a burst water pipe on Tuesday. The road has been closed for both directions until further notice. Ward councillor Tracey Lourenco was on site on Wednesday morning trying to direct traffic during peak hour. With the help of one other person, she stood there from 6.15am to 7am with no metro police officer in sight to assist – despite the hole having been there for 24 hours. “I was directing traffic at 6am this morning [Wednesday] and chaos was an under statement.”According to Lourenco things did not look good on Wednesday afternoon. “I noticed a stream of water running in the hole but was assured all was fine. I tried to call the engineer and supervisor with no reply,” she told Express on Wednesday evening before again visiting the site.
When she revisited the site around 8pm last night Zuurfontein Road was still closed with no activity taking place. An Esther Park resident told Express on Wednesday afternoon: “It was so funny now. Cars got through Zuurfontein and got to the top and just had to turn around and go back. Loving the silence now.” Residents are urged to avoid the intersection of Parkland Drive and Zuurfontein Road. Other intersections affected by the road closure are Parkland Drive and CR Swart Drive, Plane Road and Parkland Drive, and CR Swart Drive and Green Avenue.
