Water Shortage For Kemptonians
Water Shortage For Kemptonians: Rand Water has started to cut water supply to the municipality as no water restrictions are in place in the metro. The DA has expressed its concern regarding the random water outages in Ekurhuleni. “In some parts of Ekurhuleni, residents have been without water hours on end without any prior notification or temporary measures in place to supply at least drinking water,” ward councillor Jaco Terblanche said. “Residents of Kempton Park Ext 2 to Ext 4, Glen Marais, Aston Manor, Nimrod Park, Allen Grove and Rhodesfield are the worst affected thus far, with water being off since the early hours of the morning. The water levels in the reservoirs are extremely low, leading to a loss in water pressure and thus no water being supplied to residents,” Terblanche said in a statement released yesterday afternoon.
“Residents, however, have not been informed by Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality regarding any water restrictions, nor the existence of a prescribed schedule to enable them to prepare accordingly. There have also not been any communication from the metro informing residents about mitigation measures to use water sparingly,” Terblanche continued. With a water crisis looming, the DA are pushing to have the metro communicate and put water restrictions in place considering the needs of citizens and the local economy. “The DA will be monitoring the situation and will keep residents updated.”
