Snapdragons provide a perfect balance in your garden: Growing snapdragons in the garden flower beds
provides a perfect balance. The tall snapdragons in the background and the shorter bedding plants in the front.
You may use shorter snapdragons to balance out as well.

There are a number of varieties of snapdragon plants that exist.
With dwarf, intermediate and tall flowering stems that provide a range of colours to work with in the garden.

Snapdragons are available in most colours except blue. Snapdragon may reach 3 feet in height, or
these plants can be as short as 6 inches.

Planting snapdragons out can be among the first late winter gardening tasks.
These fragrant plants can handle frost, so start planting snapdragons early in the gardening season for most abundant bloom and performance.

Plant snapdragons in a full sun location with well draining soil. Care should include a few well-placed clips to manipulate this plant into a bushy specimen.
Clip the top stem and any long side shoots to encourage more flowers and a more attractive planting.

You may need to stake taller varieties for them to remain upright.
When blooms begin to fade due to the heat in summer, clip the plant by at least one-half to expect more blooms when temperatures begin to cool in fall.

How to water snapdragons:
Keep your snapdragon plants moist for the first few weeks. Once established, water regularly.
Give approximately an inch of water per week in times of no rainfall.

Water near the crown of the plant. Try to avoid overhead watering to keep your snapdragon healthy.
Once your plants are established, let soil dry out, about an inch deep before watering again.

Snapdragon care:
Always remove spent blooms. Mulch is needed when growing snapdragon. Though mostly sold as an annual,
proper care of snapdragons may encourage them to return the next year. These plants are actually a short-lived perennial plant.

Snapdragons grow well in sunny areas. Planting snapdragons in the vegetable garden may offer some
protection to the plant. Take advantage of these showy blooms of growing snapdragons and bring indoors for arrangements.

Most snapdragons are fragrant. Add snapdragons to those bare sunny areas of the landscape.
Provide organic material into the ground bed prior to planting.
If properly cared for, snapdragons will provide a wealth of early blooms in the garden.
