Power Problems Set To Stay

Power Problems Set To Stay: Some Crystal Park and Rynfield residents may face sporadic power supply for up to three months, according to Ward 24 Clr Stefanie Ueckermann. The substation was damaged in a fire in January, and again earlier this month. She said the two suburbs are suffering the effects of a damaged transformer at a substation on Pretoria Road. Ueckermann said she was informed that only one of the two transformers at the Pretoria Road facility is operational. This, along with aged cables, results in power surges, which leads to areas being plunged into darkness, according to Ueckermann. The councillor said, to her knowledge, a new transformer has not been ordered from China. She said it would take up to three months for the transformer to be delivered.

Chantelle Sweeting Hyland: “Tjello street, Rynfield. 05:07 again no electricity. Would be nice if the council would tell us what’s really going on….what about the frail care centres here? We pay for a service but don’t get answers!” Debra Yvonne Koekemoer: “For the past week and half we had alot of interuptions. Some days it would be 3 time a day for about 10min at a time or it would be anything from 1 hour to 6 hours. We live in Park str, Benoni.”
