Mother Of Rooibos Passes Away

Mother Of Rooibos Passes Away: Dr Annique (Annekie) Theron, died over the past weekend at the age of 86. “It is with deep regret and sadness that we inform you of the passing of our founding member,” her beauty company Annique said in a statement on Facebook. Annekie – called Anna by friends and family – founded Annique, a beauty company based on the purported healing properties of rooibos, after finding that feeding her colicky baby rooibos tea instead of milk helped ease her symptoms. Now, 15 000 consultants sell over 200 products made by her company, which are experted to 18 countries around the world. Just like the Rooibos plant, Dr Annique Theron came from humble beginnings. She was a farm girl whose family struggled to make ends meet, while the Rooibos plant had no status regarding its health benefits. Locked inside both of them were qualities that no one knew about, but which were powerful enough to change lives. At the right time, their paths would meet to reveal one of the greatest discoveries in the health industry – the healing powers of the Rooibos plant.

Annekie Theron was born on 18 April 1929 in Limpopo. She grew up on a small-town farm, which her family sadly lost when she was only a young girl. Determined to leave this traumatic experience behind, Annekie studied and moved to Pretoria where she met her husband, Meiring. They started a family and, even though Annekie wanted to start her own business, female entrepreneurs were mostly unheard of in the 60s and 70s. But, her desire was also her destiny and she would eventually become one of the greatest entrepreneurs of South Africa. In 1971 Annekie Theron started her business, Annekie Theron Ondernemings which soon became Forever Young Ltd, a company that produced and sold revolutionary health and skin care products containing Rooibos extract. The product range was branded Annique to add an international flair to the product profile. Her customers and Consultants also started calling Annekie, “Annique” and it became a permanent name change. The course was set for Annique to provide life-changing opportunities for people across South Africa.
