Jumbo Cash And Carry Up In Flames

Jumbo Cash And Carry Up In Flames: The fire that engulfed the Jumbo Cash and Carry on Main Reef Road near the Crown Mines, Johannesburg early yesterday morning is estimated to have destroyed R100 million rands worth of stock. “The value of stock that is carried in the store is estimated, at this early stage, to be approximately R100 million. The store, assets and stock are fully insured,” the company said in a statement. The company added that all night shift employees were safely evacuated and are fully accounted for, no one has been injured. EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi confirmed the incident saying the fire started at around 5am in the morning.

“Firefighters are on the scene battling to put out the overwhelming blaze. The cause of the fire still remains unknown. No injuries were reported,” he added. As they battled to extinguish the blaze and prevent further damage, the sound of the structure collapsing thundered into the distance. When the firefighters managed to settle the flames in one section of the building, all that remained was shattered windows and a collapsed roof in a building that once stood tall. A large contingent of police officers and security guards from the company were also on the scene to maintain order.
