Five Killed In R24 Taxi Accident
Five Killed In R24 Taxi Accident: Two children were among the five people killed in a horrific taxi accident that happened on the R24 last night. According to Chitra Bodasing Harduth, spokesman for ER24, it is believed the taxi driver lost control of the vehicle on the R24 East. Two women, a man and two children succumbed to their injuries. One other patient sustained moderate injuries and was transported to hospital, she added. According to Max Cohen, spokesman for Emer-G-Med, the accident happened between Barbara Road and the R21 split. “At 8:43pm Emer-G-Med paramedics were dispatched to the horror scene. Paramedics arrived minutes later to find that a taxi had collided with a concrete street light pole in the centre median of the highway – tearing the taxi into pieces.
“The two halves of the taxi were found about thirty metres apart, with debris across the highway. Multiple passengers had been ejected from the vehicle,” Cohen said. While at the scene, paramedics witnessed a secondary collision – in which a vehicle lost control and collided with the barrier. Fortunately no injuries were sustained, Cohen said. EMPD’s specialist accident investigation unit were at the scene to investigate the exact events leading up to the horror smash.
