In other news Ekurhuleni Chief of Police, Bafana Mahlabe, has resigned with immediate effect, after serving for only a year in office. Mayor Mzwandile Masina made the announcement in Germiston yesterday morning. According to Masina, Mahlabe submitted his resignation letter the day before. In the letter, Mahlabe cited an interest in pursuing business interests elsewhere as the reason for his resignation. “Although this development was unexpected, after carefully considering the matter, I have accepted his resignation because it is my view that you must avoid standing in someone’s way to pursue other interests,” Masina said. In the meantime, Gen Isaac Mapiyeye has been appointed as the interim Chief of Police with effect from December 1, while the metro works on finding someone to replace Mahlabe in the next three months.
