Cop Killer Rearrested: A two-and-a-half-week long police hunt for a fugitive who allegedly shot and killed a Tembisa police captain, has paid off. The Hawks Tactical Operation Management Section (TOMS), in conjunction with the National Investigation Unit (NINU) arrested Shongwane who had been on the wanted list for the murder of Capt Lamola. Joshua Bomba Shongwane (30) had been rearrested in Eersterust, Pretoria on Monday. Shongwane, who was out on bail on another murder charge, was arrested for armed robbery and when he was about to appear in the Tembisa court, a scuffle ensued between him and police officers. During the altercation, Shongwane allegedly shot and killed Lamola before escaping.

Shongwane will appear in Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to face charges of murder, hijacking, escaping from custody, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of a hijacked motor vehicle. Since the incident, TOMS and NINU have been on his tail. They finally caught him where he was hiding in Eersterust. He was found in possession of an Audi A1, which was found to have been hijacked in KwaThema in Springs in September. Well done to all who were involved in the capture of this criminal.
