Catawba grapes are used for jellies, juices and red wine: First of all, this vine is a vigorous, hardy, deciduous vine with bold-textured, deep green foliage.  It is grown for its medium-size clusters of round dull purple-red grapes.

In addition,  catawba grapes are suited for jellies and juices.  Also for sweet white, red and rosé wines.
The fruit ripens late in the season.

The vine is very fast-growing.  It can grow up to 25 ft. each year. The fruit is edible.
These grape vines can grow wherever there is direct sun and sufficient air circulation.

Furthermore, they are traditionally trained overhead onto shade arbors over outdoor living spaces.
Also popular for training along fence lines and up over arbor gateways.
These may also be cultivated on a standard wire trellis used in commercial vineyards.

Full sun is needed for this vine to grow well. This means that it should get at least six hours of direct, unfiltered sunlight each day.

The catawba grape prefers a deep, acidic (pH 5.0-6.5), well-drained, sandy soil.
It can tolerate a wide range of soil types, except alkaline and wet soils.

This vine produces bunches of medium-sized, coppery-red hybrid grapes with a full very sweet flavor.
The vine is self fertile, but planting more than one vine is recommended for the best crop.

Catawba is a red grape variety, mainly used for red wine as well as juice, jams and jellies. The grape can have a pronounced musky flavor. As does the wine made from these grapes.

Catawba is a red grape which is used to make a pink catawba wine.
Instead of doing a full fermentation run with the grapes, the makers instead only lightly use the skins during the winemaking process.

Finally,  this means fewer tannins come out of the skins into the wine and less color as well.
A lighter colour wine with a sweeter flavour is the result of this wine making.

You will most definitely be rewarded by planting some of these vines.  Enjoy the fruits thereof!!
