Calderwood Lifestyle Flats Drug Bust: EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit members apprehended a 28-year-old Nigerian national at a complex, on June 19. EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago said members received a tip-off from a “reliable source”. “The patience of the metro police bore fruit when they pounced on the suspect in his room at the Calderwood Lifestyle flats, in Extension 13, in Benoni, and uncovered a massive quantity of CAT in block form.” Authorities also discovered cash totalling R21 500, believed to be the proceeds of the illicit drug-trading. “The arrest was effected after the suspect’s house was monitored for a several days, with the objective of gathering more information and identifying individuals with who the suspect engages in his nefarious deed,” Kgasago said. Both men were charged with possession of and dealing in illicit substances.

Class A – 7 years’ imprisonment or a fine or both.
Class B – 5 years’ imprisonment or a fine or both
Class C – 2 years’ imprisonment or a fine or both
